What's happening
- Final siding (HardiePlank, lap, board-and-batten, panel)
- Exterior trim and corner boards
- Soffits and fascia
- Exterior paint or stain
- Gutters and downspouts (with stormwater facility connection)
- Landscape and hardscape (path, patio, fence, planting)
- Final site grading
Material choices
- HardiePlank fiber cement is the dominant Portland choice for fire and rot resistance. ~$8-$14/sf installed.
- Cedar lap or shingle is traditional and beautiful, but high-maintenance in Portland's wet climate.
- Metal panel is increasingly common, especially on modern DADUs.
Stormwater integration
The drywell, planter, or rain garden from step 2.4 lives in this phase. Downspouts route to the facility. The BES inspector verifies the facility is built to plan.
Weather
You can't paint or stain below ~50°F or in rain. Portland's reliable paint window is roughly mid-May through October. Schedule accordingly.
