Pull permit history for your address

Run your address through Renton's CASSP portal and the King County Assessor's eReal Property tool to find every prior permit, construction year, and any open issues. Free, takes about 20 minutes, surfaces things that would otherwise blow up the project mid-build.

Two tools, two different things

Renton CASSP portal (permitting.rentonwa.gov) shows every permit filed with Renton CED — building permits, electrical, plumbing, mechanical. Search by your address. The portal is Accela-based; if it's slow, try again during off-peak hours.

A note on history depth: permits issued before October 2023 are in a legacy Accela portal at epermits.rentonwa.gov. If the CASSP portal shows a short history on an older house, check the legacy portal too.

King County Assessor eReal Property (blue.kingcounty.com) shows the construction year, square footage, and assessed value. The construction year is what tells you whether pre-1978 lead rules and pre-1980 asbestos rules apply.

What you're looking for

  1. Open or expired permits. An unfinished roof permit from 2011 can hold up your new application until it's closed out. Easy fix — call Renton CED — but better to know now.
  2. Construction year. Pre-1978: EPA lead RRP rules apply. Pre-1980: WA asbestos rules apply. Cross-check with the Assessor record.
  3. Prior major work. A full kitchen or bath remodel by a prior owner is helpful background — it tells you what trades have already been updated.
